A few hours after I posted about fuel surcharge probably will come back in October, Japan Airlines released a press release regarding the surcharge in October. Yes, JAL IS reinstating the fuel surcharge.
As I explained in the previous post, the surcharge is set at zone B level. You will have to pay USD138 fuel surcharge for a roundtrip US-Japan ticket. But unlike ANA, JAL is keeping its revision period at 3 months. This is just another example of JAL's inflexibility.
Once again, if you are planning to redeem award tickets, do it before October 1, otherwise you will have to pay the extra fuel surcharge!
