[Update 2: JAL has moved up the rollout schedule, details can be found in this post]

Japan Airlines (JAL) has finally officially announced the roll out timeline of SKY SUITE 777 (SS7) for the Tokyo Narita (NRT) - New York (JFK) route. It was previously pre-maturally published on its website but the information has since then been removed. At the same time, JAL also announced the rollout schedule of JAL SKY Wi-Fi service to the European routes.

SS7 is the latest long-haul products JAL first introduced on the London Heathrow route on January 9 2013. JAL has revamped the offerings in all 4 classes and introduced products that are a notch above the previous generation products. Most noticeably is the wider seat pitches in almost every class and the fully flat beds in the business class seats. This configuration will be rolled out to the JFK route from early May 2013. No specific dates have been given yet and JAL will announce the dates once it has been decided. Not sure if JAL would be able to make this a daily service via aircraft routing during the initially rollout. We will have to wait for further announcement to confirm.

This matches with the leaked information I reported last week. If that's the case, expect rollout to Paris (CDG) (NRT only), Los Angeles (LAX), and Chicago (ORD) in July, November and January respectively. Note that the leaked information did not contain rollout dates for Frankfurt (FRA) and Jakarta (CGK). So be prepared for the rollout to your route by taking a look at the virtual tour and the seat map.

JAL SKY Wi-Fi Rollout
Up until now, the JAL SKY Wi-Fi service has been exclusively provided on the North American and Jakarta route. But JAL will progressively roll out this service to its European network, starting with the London Heathrow and Frankfurt routes in early April 2013. Once again, no specific dates have been given and further announcements will be made on JAL website.

JAL SKY Wi-Fi is a paid service with two options: 1 hour service for USD11.95 or 24 hour service for USD21.95. Certain JAL affiliated credit card holders has a small discount on the service and JAL top tier elites with JAL Card can enjoy this service for essentially free via JAL Card refunds.
