Japan Airlines (JAL) has released the details of the revamped Sakura Lounges at Tokyo Haneda international terminal today. It has undergone constructions since October 2013 and will finally be ready on March 30 2014 when the new day-time international flights takeoff.

As part of the JAL NEW SKY PROJECT, JAL New Products and Services General Advisor Kundo Koyama and Japanese interior designer Ryu Kosaka have worked together to design the new Sakura Lounge under the Welcome! JAL New Sky slogan to create a more comfortable and convenient space for passengers to enjoy before their flights.

They have designed the new lounge based on the "modern Japan" idea. Through the use of stylish design, Japanese traditional crafts and sophisticated materials, they want to show the heart of Japan and Japanese hospitality. Also, the "room to room" design concept has created many different variety of spaces for passengers to enjoy.


Main Hall

The expanded Sakura Lounge will be about 2.5 times of the existing lounge. It consists of 2 different lounges: Main Hall and Sky View. Entrance to the Main Hall and dining area is on the 4th floor, while passengers can enjoy the city and runway views on the 5th floor. This is where the current lounge is. There is also business center, shower facilities and massage chairs. There are a total of 314 seats in this area.

JAL will continue to serve its well received JAL Special Beef Curry and bread from Maison Kaiser at the lounge. Other dishes will change based on the season. Between March 30 and April 14 2014, JAL will be serving special Temari sushi created by the star chefs from its JAL BEDD Sky Auberge restaurant.

Sakura Lounge Sky View

Located at the 5th floor of the expanded area is called "Sakura Lounge Sky View" because of its large windows throughout the area. You will be able to enjoy the view of the domestic terminal and the city on this floor.  Through the use of "room to room" design concept, the atmosphere changes in different rooms on this floor. There are a total of 271 seats on the Sky View floor.

SKY HILL

SKY HILL is the area which you could relax and enjoy the view of airplanes come and go. It is almost like lying on the grass and looking up to the sky, thus the name of SKY HILL. Look they even put in the grass color carpet to match the name ;)

Bar Counter

The bar counter will feature a large art piece which resemble a world map created by Japanese calligrapher Souun Takeda.

When you walk towards through the area, the atmosphere and design changes through the use of different furniture and carpet.

At the corner, the are very private areas for passengers to relax and enjoy the time there. Of course, there are massage chairs as well. Also it will feature nursing room, dressing room, and ladies' powder room. Shower facilities have also been expanded as well.


Special Gift

To celebrate the reborn of the Sakura Lounge, JAL will be giving out cherry blossom soap from Savon de Siesta to passengers on March 30 2014. Sakura Lounge logo will be printed on the envelop with soap in shape of cherry blossom petals.


JAL First Class Lounge

The JAL First Class Lounge is still undergoing construction at the moment and work will continue till the end of August 2014. The new First Class lounge will be roughly 3 times the size of the existing one. JAL plans to provide new services that matches the First Class standard at the new First Class lounge. Details will be announced later. But at the meantime, priority areas have set aside at the Sakura Lounge for the passengers eligible for the First Class lounge.
