JAL 787 has gone tech already on April 25 2012

As you all know, Japan Airlines received their first two Boeing 787s (JA825J and JA822J) about a month ago and JAL has just launched the new Tokyo Narita (NRT) - Boston (BOS) route on April 22. But the launch isn't as smooth as expected. JAL has to delay JL007 (BOS-NRT) on April 25 for 24 hours due to aircraft maintenance issues.

The aircraft that went tech was JA822J. The inaugural flight was operated by JA822J on April 22 and the 2nd flight was operated by JA825J. So this is just the 2nd roundtrip to Boston for JA822J and its already experiencing problems! No words on what the actual problem is but it is something big enough to trigger a 24 hour delay.

Good that JAL schedule to operate only 4 weekly flights (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday) initially. I suspect this is exactly the reason why JAL did that. If they had gone daily instead, they would have no 787 available for JL008 on April 27 :p

Hopefully the JAL 787 reliability will improve over time and this is just a one-time glitch. JAL is planning to expand its 787 operation to Delhi (DEL), Moscow (DME), and Beijing (PEK) in May with the two new 787s (JA826J and JA827J) delivered yesterday (planes haven't flown away yet)
