[Updated] JAL changes elite qualification and discontinues upgrade points
Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced planned changes in the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) FLY ON Program. Specifically, the JMB elite qualification requirements will change from January 2012. JAL has added number of FOPs/sectors earned on JAL Group flights as extra requirements. And also a bit of more sad news is that the upgrade points program will be discontinued after this year. But if you pay attention to the explanation, this might mean a new lie-flat business class seat will finally come in 2 years or so.
Finally a FLY ON Points, Miles and Award Calculator on JAL website
For some people, it has always been a hassle to calculate for the exact FLY ON Points (FOPs) you will get when you plan for a mileage run with JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) as JAL did not have a FOP calculator on its website. I use a excel spreadsheet for my FOP calculations and sometimes the results could be off by 1 if it's a new route that I have never flown on before. But all these have changed! Finally JAL has published an official FOP calculator for BOTH Japan region and non-Japan region JMB members in BOTH Japanese and English! :D
JALCard FLY ON Points Bonus Campaign
Japan Airlines (JAL) will continue to run last year's JALCard FLY ON Points (FOPs) bonus campaign this year. Just like last year, eligible JALCard holders will earn either 10% or 20% of FOP bonus depending on their card type when they fly on eligible JAL Group flights. For details, please visit JAL website (Japanese, English).
This is so unfair to overseas JAL affiliated credit card holders, e.g. JAL USA Card holders, who get nothing :(

JAL Extends FLY ON Points Bonus
Fly On Points Bonus update
Japan Airlines (JAL) finally got back to me yesterday regarding whether booking class 'X' qualifies for the 400 Fly On Point (FOP) bonus. It took JAL two weeks to confirm this as they were confused themselves about this change. And as expected, the new business booking class does qualify for this bonus. So below is the JAL Mileage Bank miles and FOP summary effective April 1 2010
JAL Global Club challenge
No this is not the kind of challenge on AA in which you only have a fast track to attain your status. Since Japan Airlines announced the changes in JAL Global Club (JGC), a number of people have asked me similar questions: What is the cheapest way to obtain JGC. So I have started a thread on FlyerTalk JAK Mileage Bank forum.
More booking class and Fly On Points bonus updates
Talk about being sneaky! Japan Airlines has updated its previous announcement no booking class/JMB miles accumulation rate changes and the Fly On Point (FOP) bonus campaign page without publishing it on the front page (at least I didn't see it). I only found out about the changes when I looked at the new JAL ex-US fares from April 1 (yes, they are changing the fare rules).
English site for JAL Mileage Project 2010 is up!
JAL Mileage Project 2010 - Added benefits and campaigns for JALCard holders
There are 5 exclusive campaigns Japan Airlines is running for JALCard holders. There are two discounted award ticket campaigns, two mileage bonus campaigns and one Fly On Point bonus campaign. These are some of the ways JAL trying to thanks their loyal customers and to lure other passengers back from other carriers. OK, so there are loves for the elites and JALCard holders. But where is the love for holders of other cards e.g. Premio, Hang Seng, etc? I want the bonus FOPs campaign! Maybe JAL include current JMB elites too? :(
JAL extends the “FLY ON Program“ Point Bonus Campaign once again
As expected, Japan Airlines extends the "FLY ON Program" Point Bonus Campaign to next year. JAL has updated its Japanese website but not the English one yet. For details, you can refer to here.
JAL extends Fly On Point bonus campaign for Japan members once again
Once again, Japan Airlines extends the bonus Fly On Point (FOP) campaign which they have been running since April 1 2009. Japan JMB members can enjoy this campaign until the end of year and has a better chance to qualify as a JAL most frequent flyers (aka elite members).
