This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Tokyo International Airport, aka Haneda. Japan Airlines (JAL) has recreated the inflight meal on served on their first international flight to San Francisco during the Sky Day Festival 2011 on October 21 2011.

Back then the flight was operated by a DC-6B and had to stop at Wake Island and Honolulu to refuel, and it took 30 hours to get to SFO! Nowadays it only takes 9 hours to SFO.

The meal recreated was served on the flight from Wake Island to Honolulu. It consists of soup, pineapple salad, roasted chicken with mushroom sauce, bread, fruit and pudding!

This was the meal served in 1954 when they first started the flight! Yes that's more than 50 years ago but it still looks delicious! Now it makes me want to try this out...How about serving this in their a la carta menu for a limited period of time? It wouldn't be such a bad idea to celebrate the upcoming 60th anniversary in 2014 right? ;)

  1. I missed the JAL flight attendant uniform exhibits inside SFO museum. The meal looks appealing. If I can find a cheap fare on JAL, I would like to fly with them. But no luck so far.

  2. SFO-Japan? They have a discounted award promo going on. 50K JMB or AA miles will get you a roundtrip SFO-HND ticket in business class. No YQ if you use AA miles. Is this cheap enough for you? :p
