JAL teams up with JR Tokai

Japan Airlines and Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) have decided to team up to boost the Japan tourism. They aim at attracting more foreign visitors to Japan.

Starting from July 1 2009, passengers can easily purchase "Sunrise Tour", a sponsored Shinkansen tour provided by JTB and JR Tokai, when they make their reservation on JAL websites. Sounds like they are going to display a link or a banner on JAL reservation page and it will bring you to JAPANiCAN.com to book the Shinkansen tour. The site will support English, French, German, Spanish and Korean (um...no Chinese?)

In case you haven't heard of Shinkansen before, it is the world-famous high-speed bullet train in Japan (yea I know...you are probably thinking why didn't I say this earlier :P). Some people actually think Shinkansen and the airlines are competitors, especially on shorter domestic flights, e.g. Tokyo to Osaka/Kyoto. Not sure why JAL doesn't just team up with JTB and promote air tours. According to the press release, JAL and JR Tokai plan to develop further collaboration and will offer promotion to new domestic destinations that would best represent Japan.
